Krka National Park opening hours

Krka National Park is open every day of the year, but the hours stretch from a seven-hour winter day to twelve hours in July and August, and the sites inside the park do not all follow the same clock. Here is the official timetable month by month, what changes with the season, how long a visit takes and the time of day that avoids the summer crowd.

Hours by month and by site

The park publishes one timetable for Skradinski buk, the main waterfall and the site almost everyone comes for, and separate ones for Roški slap, the Manojlovac falls with the Roman camp at Burnum, and the two visitor centres at Puljane and Kistanje. Skradinski buk is open all year; Roški slap closes from November to March. The hours below are the park's official table for the current year; the ticket office in Skradin opens half an hour before Skradinski buk and closes with it.

What changes with the season

Three things move with the calendar besides the clock. The boat from Skradin and the bus from Lozovac to Skradinski buk, both included in the ticket, run from 1 April to 31 October; in winter you drive down to the falls from Lozovac yourself or walk. The boat excursions to Visovac and Roški slap run in the same months, and in March and November only if the weather allows. And the ticket price follows the same three bands as the hours: 7 € in the winter months, 20 € in April, May and October, 40 € from June to September, with a 30 € rate after 15:00 in summer. The full price table and what the ticket includes are on the getting there page and the tickets page.

The best time to visit

April, May and October are the sweet spot: the river is full after the rains, the boardwalk is green, the boats and buses are running, the park is open until 18:00 or 19:00 and the ticket costs half the summer price. July and August bring the longest hours but also the coach crowds from Split and Zadar, who arrive between 10:00 and 13:00; come at 08:00 when the gates open or after 15:00, when the price drops and the light on the falls is at its best. Winter is a different park: 7 € entry, empty paths, the falls at full roar after rain, no boat, and the Lozovac road open to your own car. Parts of the boardwalk can close when the river floods.

Rain is no reason to stay away; mist on the travertine is the classic Krka photograph. Heat is: in August the boardwalk loop has little shade, so carry water and start early. Which waterfalls and boat trips are worth the time is on the waterfalls and boats page.

How long a visit takes

The Skradinski buk loop is a 1,900-metre one-way educational trail over boardwalks and stone paths; most people take an hour and a half to two hours with the viewpoints and the restored mills. Add 25 minutes each way for the Skradin boat or 10 for the Lozovac bus. The Visovac boat excursion adds two hours, the long trip to Roški slap four. Roški slap, Burnum and the Manojlovac falls are a separate drive of 30 to 45 minutes each and turn the visit into a full day. A half day from Split or Zadar covers Skradinski buk and Visovac; a full day covers the whole park. How to choose between this park and Plitvice is on the Krka or Plitvice page.
